Frequently Asked Questions

When is registration and what do I need to bring?
Registration dates are April 3rd and April 17th at Kelly High School. Times are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Football registration is open until June 30th, but space is limited and we operate on a first come, first serve basis. You MUST bring the following documents with you to registration: copies of your child(ren)’s birth certificate, last report card, current electric, water, or gas bill showing 77707, 77706, or 77713 zip code, BISD attendance zone (if not attending an eligible school), completed welcome packet and application, and a wallet sized photo of your child. You must also have your registration fee (cash or check only). Incomplete registration packets will not be accepted.

When is the first practice? The week of August 9th.

What does my child need to wear on the first day of practice?
Players need to wear shorts, a t-shirt, and cleats. Cheerleaders need to wear comfortable shorts, a tee shirt, and tennis shoes. Please have their hair pulled away from their face (preferably a pony tail) and jewelry is not permitted.

When will we get a game schedule?
The game schedule will be distributed in mid-August.

When will we know what team our child is on?
The beginning of August

How do you decide what teams the kids are on?
In divisions with multiple teams, a mini camp will be held for evaluation of that division with a traditional draft following the mini camp.

How many games will be played “at home”?
It varies but, in general, we’ll play 10 games total with 3-5 being home. Our home field is Kelly High School.

What do you mean by “closed practices”?
Only WBBIFL authorized persons are allowed on the field. This allows our coaches to teach without distractions.

Will we be expected to do any fundraising?
Yes. We will have a few fundraising opportunities throughout the season. We will have a tent set up at all home games to sell West Beaumont Bulldog merchandise. There will be plenty of opportunities to volunteer your time.

What about end of season parties?
There will be a party at the conclusion of the season. The Team Mom is responsible for end of year parties and should coordinate this with the Head Coach. These parties will include both players and cheerleaders.

Who do we communicate with if we have any coach/parent issues?
Our coaches are hand-picked based on WBBIFL requirements. However, we have a system in place for resolving conflicts and issues. Never approach the coach with an issue. Instead, discuss the problem with our Player Agent (Gabe Vaughn) and he will work to resolve your concerns. Cheerleader parents should discuss the problem with our Cheerleading Coordinator (Debbie Moon) and she will work to resolve your concerns.

How do you make sure every player gets to play at least 10 plays?
We have a system in place called Mandatory Play Rule (MPR).

What happens if my child misses practice?
We strongly encourage every player to attend EVERY practice. Disciplinary action may be taken if a player misses more than one practice during a week or if the coach notices a trend of absences by a player (every Monday, etc.). Always call the coach to inform him/her that your child will miss a practice. Cheerleaders are also strongly encouraged to attend EVERY practice. They will be learning dances, cheers, chants, and stunting. Sometimes, we will learn 2 or 3 chants at one practice and if your child misses, she will be at a disadvantage.

What is certification?
Player certification is the process in which STJFL verifies that each player is eligible to play for a specific team. They will verify age, weight, and residence. WBBIFL will have all documentation needed. Your child MUST be present at certification.

When is certification?
Certification will be conducted at Kelly High School on Aug. 21st.

Why does my child need a physical and who is qualified to do this?
Many childhood conditions manifest at this pre-teen age. The medical physical helps ensure the health of the child to meet the physical demands of the sport. Most family doctors, pediatricians, and/or Registered Nurses can provide this. You must provide a completed physical before the first practice.

What equipment is provided & what do I need to purchase?
For players, WBBIFL will provide a customized game jersey, game pants, helmet, and all pads. The players will keep their jersey. Parents are required to supply cleats and a mouthpiece. For cheerleaders, WBBIFL will provide a custom-fit high quality uniform shell and skirt, bloomers, half-top, a bow, socks, pom poms, and a monogrammed bag. You will keep everything purchased after the season and can re-use it next year.

Do I need to provide a drink for my child during practices?
Water will be provided for all players and cheerleaders at practices and games. You may send Gatorade or water with your child if you choose. Please make sure it is labeled with your child’s full name.
